Healthcare Data Information Corporation (HDIC)

Brief Description
Spearheaded by NHF in 1993, HDIC was the largest health information network in the nation. Comprised of 39 major payors, purchasers and providers in California, the organization was dedicated to creating a statewide electronic network for administrative and clinical transactions. NHF provided interim leadership and support for the project, enabling HDIC to reach successful operational milestones and become an independent stand-alone organization. The Foundation worked with the HDIC Public Policy Committee to develop privacy, confidentiality, access and security policies for the new network. NHF's work in this area produced a blueprint for other systems nationwide to follow.
